FRUSTRATION! That sums up the dental experience of one woman prior to meeting with California’s premier dentist Dr. Sam Muslin, DDS. Kim had a lot of dental issues and no one seemed to have an acceptable solution for her complicated case. She had:
- Gum recession
- Dark triangular space between teeth
- Tooth clenching and grinding
- Crooked short teeth
- Worn bite
- Discoloration and yellowing of teeth
- TMJ problems
Kim had consulted with her previous dentist about having pinhole gum surgery to remedy the embarrassing holes between her teeth caused by gum recession. It was minimally invasive, so it sounded like a good idea. However, once she learned more about the procedure she realized her dentist was not going to fix the dark shadows between her teeth visible from the front. The pinhole procedure was going to address her lateral gingival loss, but not in front – where it really bothered her.
She was referred to a specialist. Kim was willing to hear what he had to say, so she made an appointment. It wasn’t a positive consultation. She left more frustrated than when she walked in the office.
“I was referred to a periodontist. He said I had way too much gum loss for the pinhole procedure. (He said) that I needed traditional grafting and that nothing could be done to treat the holes in the front.”
The periodontist noted that Kim’s bite was not right and suggested that she be put in braces to correct her TMJ problems. This is not what any grown woman wants to hear! One to two years in braces with no guarantees did not sound like a reasonable risk.
Adding insult to injury, the specialist said that porcelain veneers would be needed after the years of orthodontia. They were the only thing that would remedy the yellow color of her teeth and to elongate the look of her short crooked teeth. Hearing this suggestion was upsetting since Kim knew that she ground her teeth. Traditional veneers don’t tend to fair well with a person who clenches and grinds her teeth. They tend to crack and come off.
“Why waste years of your time (in braces) to get partial treatment that does not solve the main problems?”
It’s no wonder this patient was at her wit’s end. She was trying to be responsible. She wanted to be proactive so she didn’t lose her teeth, but her options didn’t seem very doable. The avenues she had been given were, in fact, quite overwhelming.
Rather than give up, Kim resolved to be an advocate for her own health and well-being. She went to her computer and started doing some research. She wanted a high-tech dentist who could deliver the goods – one who could treat her jaw joint problems, fix her bite, deal with her gum recession, and make the black triangles between her teeth disappear. She wanted to look better and feel better without gum graft surgery or a weekly date with an orthodontist.
Kim’s online search uncovered several options, but none as intriguing as what Dr. Muslin’s website described. The before and after photos of satisfied patients were stunning. Not only did the patients’ smiles look much better, but their faces looked refreshed – younger even.
“Your website was the only one that offered enough information for me to be able to decide that you were the one that would be able to treat all my issues.”
Dr. Muslin does not shy away from difficult cases. His career experience with optimizing bites while correcting the size, length and width of each tooth is noteworthy. Discoloration, tooth sensitivity and correction of dark spaces between teeth are conditions that Dr. Muslin routinely treats with his Anti-aging Facelift Dentistry® approach. Although she found a “celebrity dentist” online, she just had a better feeling about Dr. Muslin. She set up a consultation and bought a plane ticket. She started treatment the day after her consultation.
Upon examining Kim, Dr. Muslin noted the patient’s unorthodox bite, resulting in worn short teeth and gum loss. Not only were the gums compromised on the sides of her mouth, but also in front, leaving the appearance of dark holes between her teeth. These spaces were like magnets for food during meals, making eating in public a source of embarrassment.
- Gum disease
- Unnatural bite tension
- Toothpick use
- Proxy brushes
“I don’t recommend the use of toothpicks or proxy brushes,” says Dr. Muslin. “The gums can be injured. Instead, brush, rinse, floss and get your teeth professionally cleaned regularly.”
Pinhole gum grafting is effective on the lateral gum regions, if the spaces are small, notes Dr. Muslin. Using grafts from the roof of one’s mouth or from a donor are possible options for slightly larger areas.
While Patient Kim had cosmetic concerns, there was more at stake than a Hollywood smile.
“It’s about your face far more than your smile,” says Dr. Sam Muslin, DDS
Kim needed a lot of work to optimize her bite and straighten her teeth, but she had decided braces, surgery or other invasive procedures were off the table. During consultation with Dr. Muslin, her medical history showed that clenching and grinding had worn her teeth, and that her gums were not at their best. Dental x-rays were taken, as well as multi-angled images of her face and jaw.
Dr. Muslin consulted an old photo of the patient taken 20 years prior, too. It was obvious that a full-mouth reconstruction was the answer for this client. He ordered models be taken of her teeth to help with the process of customizing her porcelain VENLAYS®, which would help her bite, gums and other cosmetic issues. Proposed modifications would give her a mouth that reflected the face structure she had two decades earlier.
Mouth Reconstruction in Three Weeks or Less
Kim’s existing crowns and fillings were replaced the first day after consultation. She flew home and awaited the second phase of her mouth transformation. Dr. Muslin personally worked on each porcelain application, which takes a little time; however, in only three weeks Kim was back in the air on the way to the final stages of treatment.
Kim tried on the new VENLAY® restorations to see what she thought. This trial period is one of the things that sets Dr. Muslin’s practice apart. The veneers are not bonded to the teeth initially, giving time for patient input. Kim wanted a few modifications, and they were completed over night.
She returned in the morning and tested the small changes. She liked how her VENLAY® restorations felt and looked. Her premature aging had been sent packing!
The dark triangles of space between the teeth were gone in the front and on the sides. Dr. Muslin gave her straight white teeth that looked natural and worked in her mouth the way they were supposed to. The porcelain veneers protect her sensitive teeth and hid discoloration. Kim’s teeth were repositioned to support a healthy bite and to optimize her profile. No more clenching and grinding of teeth. Her pretty smile was a bonus.
Satisfied, Kim gave the go-ahead to bond her VENLAY® restorations permanently. She was able to fly back home with a confident smile and a bite that worked. Only a few days after treatment, Kim messaged her miracle worker dentist.
“Your skills and eye for detail are b-e-y-o-n-d compare,” she emailed. “My new bite feels ah-mazing, and I’ve regained the confidence to smile again – BEST feeling ever!”

“I’m still getting used to my smile, but other than that, I could not be happier! My dentist was right in saying Dr. Muslin is in the top 1 percent.
I’m glad I chose him.”
“It’s not about your smile, it is about your face and the health of your bite,” said Dr. Muslin. “Not grinding down healthy teeth is a huge advantage over the other methods because its non-invasive. It’s less painful. It’s less risky.
And the veneer application is tested in advance, allowing for adjustments.”
Optimizing the bite in relationship to each unique facial structure gives immediate results and maximizes long-term health, says Dr. Muslin. Good oral conditions lead to an overall improvement in health. Antiaging Facelift Dentistry® with VENLAY® restorations prevents or reverses premature aging.
“Yes, it’s non-invasive. Yes, it has cosmetic benefits,” says Dr. Sam Muslin, “but Facelift Dentistry® improves the quality of life far beyond a great smile.”
